Wonderful views of the Amalfi Coast make for a special stay.

Fabulous vistas that pan out for ever, wonderful terrace from which to enjoy them and great swimming pool is just the start of a special stay at the Hotel Villa Pandora. You are literally suspended between the deep blue sea and wonderful countryside of the Amalfi coast, itself one of the treasures of Italy. The Gods certainly favoured this whole region and myths abound here.

The name Pandora itself, relates to the grotto located under the hotel named after a damsel sent by Zeus, no less, which is accessible only by sea – we certainly advise taking a boat to admire the columns of stalactites and stalagmites that abound. The hotel has also been recently renovated, and whilst it still maintains the somewhat fussy decoration of Italian “Liberty Style” giving rooms a heavier feel than usual, all face out to the sea to take advantage of those simply wonderful views. There’s also no lacking of amenities or facilities Friendly staff in keeping with a family run hotel add to the sense of enjoyment, for this is truly is one of the lucky places of Europe in terms of sheer beauty and unique natural attributes.

The Hotel Villa Pandora is located in “Località Cannaverde”, one of the most picturesque spots on the Amalfi Coast, only one km distance from Maiori Centre.
Recently renovated, the hotel enjoys a breathtaking view of the Coast and the fascinating Pandora’s Grotto. The competent service and the attention that has been paid to every detail ensure a comfortable and relaxing holiday in complete peace.
The private Garage under the hotel (for 3 or 4 cars) and the Private Car Park at 100 mt from the hotel, is included in the price of the room.

Available to the guests there are a Swimming pool and Solarium with a deck chair and a shower, a booking service for tickets on a mini-cruise along the Coast, gastronomic and cultural events and for hiring cars, motorbikes, rubber dinghies and boats.
On request the hotel may arrange for transport to / from the airport or train Station.
Trips to Pompei, Napoli, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello are also organised.

About Maiori, Amalfi Coast :

Maiori is situated at the outlet of the Reginna Maior torrent, from which it derives its name. Unfortunately the torrent is also a part of the town's history for other reasons: it has often ruined the country with disastrous floods, as in 1910 and above all in 1954.
This latter catastrophe destroyed almost all the inhabited centre and it is ,for this reason that Maiori, the only one among Amalfi coast's towns, presents itself to visitors' eyes with numerous modern buildings.

From the historical point of view Maiori was a faithful ally of the Amalfi Republic for many years and for this reason it was fiercely attacked and sacked in many occasione. The last time was in 1268 by the fleets of Pisa, a very fìerce enemy of Amalfi.
So a slow decline began and it worsened due to a plague in 1656 that reduced the population to a few hundred inhabitants.

However, with the passing of time, thanks to the fertility of the area that in this part of the Coast is less rough and rocky than elsewhere, the town recovered a certain welfare so that today it is one of better-equipped tourist and bathing centres. Nevertheless the town has preserved precious architectonic jewels of great tourist interest that without doubt deserve a visit.

Besides tbc Abbey of Santa Maria de' Olearia, the only Benedectine monument of the Coast that has remained practically intact up to our times, wc must remember tbc Castle, the Tower called "delle Formicole" and the church of S. Maria al mare.
The Mezzacapo Castle also called Miramare or S. Nicola, was built in tbc 15th century on tbc rocky buttress of Ponticchio hill. Its gardens, of a subsequent period, hide caves and rocky gorges with subterranean rivers, cleverly integrated with lanes surrounded by rose-beds.

Today the Tower of Formicole, built in 1590, is used as a restaurant and discobar by whose name (Torre Normanna) it is generally known.
In tbc neighbourhood a source of sulphureous and drinkable water is also accessible from tbc sea. The Church of S. Maria a Mare, with a splendid majolica dome, was restored many times respecting the original nucleus dated at the 11 th century.

The Baroque front is of remarkable interest with three portals of a subsequent period (tbc 18th century). Inside there are rich artistic treasures among which wc point out the lacunar cciling , built by Alessandro Fulco in tbc 16th cent, ury and the wooden statue named "La Madonna col Bambino" (Madonna with Baby). In the sacristy numerous small objects of art are also conserved. From the landscape point of view, Capo d'Orso, extraordinary rocky promontory on the sea, is part of the Municipality of Maiori. It deserves a walk both by sea and by land.

From Positano to Amalfi.

Set into the mountain, surrounded by rich mediterranean vegetation, Positano is so picturesque as to seem a spontaneous stage setting. Seen from the sea it looks like a huge nativity scene, a waterfall of little multicoloured houses clinging onto its sides.

The town develops vertically. The homes, one on top of the other, are characterised by arched porticos that give onto the sea, and are painted in pastel colours, giving it the look of a multifaceted precious stone. It is not for nothing that Positano is called “the gem of the divine coast”. The narrow streets, lined with boutiques, run downhill between the houses flowing onto the Spiaggia Grande, a wide beach. From here there is a beautiful view of the sea, as well as of the town as it clambers up the mountainside. On the main square of Positano is the parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta, there since the year 1,000. The great coloured majolica cupola is visible from all over town. The little beaches of Positano are charming, and easy to get to on foot or by boat: Fornillo, Fiumicello and Arienzo.

Positano is a holiday destination appreciated for VIP vacations. Around 1940 Irene Kowaliska, a painter who lived here in Villa Sette Santi, used Positano as inspiration for her paintings on cloth. The Villa Stella Romana has been host to, among other Popes, Pope John Paul II. Illustrious artists, fashion moguls and screen stars love to come here to relax. A few miles from the coast are Li Galli, or “Sirenuse”, a tiny archipelago made up of three islets: the Gallo Lungo, the Rotonda and the castelluccio, considered the ancient dwellings of the enchanting Sirens. Positano is not just about the sea: pleasant walks take one to visit the evocative areas around Lattari Mountains, like Montepertuso, so-called because it is said that the Madonna appeared here in a hole in the cliff

(“pertuso” stands for hole) . A stairway of 1,700 steps takes you to Nocelle. It is from here that the

famous Trail of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei) begins, with beautiful views over the entire coast.

Or you can reach the beautiful coastal Punta San Pietro, where there is a little church on a precipice

over the sea.
